I have been passively following the Computer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in 2009 and one of the newest toys that has captured my attention is the little infrared-camera built by FLIR and its use in automotive applications. I looked into this some more and found the following video that describes the new FLIR system from LiveLeak.com:

FLIR has joined up with BMW to introduce this technology in some of their higher-end models, however, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this technology make it into every car in the not to distant future in the hopes of making night time driving safer for everyone. Now, if only they could transpose distant images onto the windshield without having you constantly monitor the extra screen would be amazing. I think that technology is a little further away.
