Evidence that Next iMacs and Mac Minis to use NVIDIA Chipsets

The is a posting on www.macrumors.com. Original posting here, but reproduced in its entirety here. It is not my intent to plagiarize, hence the reason for referencing the location of the find. It is interesting news indeed:

———–
Configuration files buried within some versions of Mac OS X show evidence that the next iMac and Mac Mini will indeed be based on the NVIDIA MCP79 chipset. Apple recently switched their MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models to the NVIDIA chipsets in October. Amongst other benefits, the new notebooks have much improved graphics card capabilities, which make them more suitable to take advantage of OpenCL technologies coming in Snow Leopard.

Apple will apparently be bringing these improvements to both the new iMac and Mac mini. While many have expected the iMac to receive these upgrades, the fate of the Mac mini has been less certain.

A configuration file found in the Mac OS X version that ships with the new MacBook and MacBook Pros reveal entries referencing unreleased “MacMini3,1″ and “iMac9,1″ models. The relevant lines have been excerpted here:

The CFG_MCP79 appears to refer to the NVIDIA MCP79 chipset, which suggests these unannounced models will use this new chipset. The currently shipping iMac and Macmini carry model numbers of iMac8,1 and Macmini2,1. The findings were originally described in a forum post that we’ve subsequently verified. The references are found in System -> Library -> Extensions -> IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -> Contents -> PlugIns -> ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext -> Contents -> Info.plist in the new MacBook or MacBook Pro.

Come’on Auto-Giants and Unions, get your act together!!!

Everyone has to get off their high-riding horse and become realistic. This is the worst economic crisis in years and it affects the entire global economy. Before this even happened, the big three must have known they were in turmoil over a year ago, and what to they do…continue their big spending. Most of the problem is with the upper management and their lack of being able to manage their finances correctly. Granted…they are a big part of the problem.

However, another part of the problem is the UAW and CAW. They are also to blame for this crisis and the recent Congressional decision to not bailout the big three. Reason: they were not willing to sacrifice their pay (specifically UAW) to help the bottom line as their current contract expires in 2011. I have a problem with that…with loads of companies laying off people and various companies reducing pay, why should taxpayer money go to a failing industry without a plan?? I would not like to have my taxpayer money go to industries where they will just continue along like nothing is happening and without their employee base helping out at the bottom line by having their over-inflated wages decrease by a bit.

Just moments ago, GM announced all North American operations will be suspended for the month of January, leading into the first two weeks of February. This is likely to translate to no payout to the union’s, therefore, no pay to the workers either.

If this industry is to survive in North America, everyone has to take a hit, including the workers who manufacturer these cars. I don’t see this happening any other way.

Rioting in Greece

I was reading some articles on CNN and came across this one in regarding the riots that have erupted in Greece. Full article can be see here.

In brief, a teen was shot after trying to throw a fuel-filled bomb towards police officers. It incident started after about six of them pelted stones towards a police cruiser.

It is regrettable that life was lost in this incident, but I would think the police officer involved was completely justified in his reaction as a fuel-filled bomb could have cause more harm to the officers involved in the incident than just one life.

But what appears to be even more surprising are the riots that have occurred as a result of this incident. To those that are rioting, you are not representing your younger population in a good light. Get your head out of your asses and act like adults.

Enough said…
