My first Triathlon – DONE and DONE

What a rush!!! It was an amazing day and wish I could do it all again….really. Considering that I had my ACL surgery back in January and started swimming in Carleton university in July, I am more then happy with my result. It was great to compete in this event with my friend Simon Macdonald, which was his first triathlon as well. My mom, brother, and a few others were there to cheer me on as I transitioned between the swim to bike and bike to run. So…where do I stand, why don’t I load up the results.

Combining all the athletes in the Try-a-Tri event, I ended up in 4th place overall. Drilling down a little further, I was in third place overall for the males, first in my swim, and first in the bike, but lost the lead in the run towards the end. Take a look for yourself:

What will this mean for next time? I got to work on increasing my running cadence and improve my transition times. However, the goal of this event was to have fun, but also do my best. I couldn’t have asked for a better result, especially, what I have been through this year with my recovery. I hope to publish photo’s once they are posted on ZoomPhoto.ca

Signed up for my first triathlon

It was a long time coming, but I have signed up for my first triathlon. It will be held on August 30th and it is the “Try-a-Tri” variant which consists of 200m swim, 15km bike and a 3km run. My brother has been persuading me to try a couple events before the season is out, but I had to wait till my ACL recovery was 100% and I think I am at the stage where I can do this event without any problem.

About a month ago or so, I have started swimming and have already moved up to the second fastest lane after just two weeks, so I am in good company as it consists of quite a few triathletes.

On another note, I have started playing Ultimate again in the middle of July. I have already 3 or 4 games under my belt and the last game I played resulted in two end goals. So, I think I am beginning to get comfortable with the sport again, but I need to be cautious and make sure I do not do anything stupid on the fields.

Anyway….I am about to head out in little over an hour to UPI to participate in our playoffs. Our team is top ranked in the second tier, so I hope we stay that way. :-)

More about the finals once they are complete with photo’s too.
