So…what is new an exciting in this day: Feb. 18, 2008
Let’s see…..well, it is Family Day in the province of Ontario. This is a new statutory holiday that will be held on the third Monday of February and it started this year. It was a new holiday that the McGuinty government wanted to introduce to allow families to be together. This brings the statutory day count to a total of nine for the province of Ontario which is the same number for the provinces of Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
What did I do on Family Day? Well, pretty much nothing. I used this day to relax and get everything organized since I will be moving into my new home on May 1st.
The DVD format war is pretty much over. Toshiba decided to stop selling and developing DVD players that follow the HD-DVD format in favour for Sony’s Blu-Ray format. This is one major blow for the HD-DVD format. This is good news for me since Blu-ray players will drop in price within the next year as the standard becomes more prominent in the movie industry.
The United States will be shooting down a malfunctioning spy-satellite that is falling down to earth. Without intervention, deadly fumes could fall on an area the size of two-football fields, which is not an ideal situation because it is yet unknown as to where it might fall. So the potential for damage is tremendous. The decision to shoot and destroy the satellite is a good one as a direct hit will destroy the satellite and any surviving bits will harmlessly burn up in the atmosphere.
Writers strike is over…finally. Now we can get some new shows, but the normal 22 episode season will be shorter. It seems like the writers got what they asked for from the production companies. I can understand the fundamental issue and appreciate why they were striking. Writers are an important asset to the entertainment industry and shouldn’t be taken for granted. Without writers, there would be no shows. It just sucks it took so long for a mutual agreement to take place.
That is pretty much it for now…..5 weeks since ACL surgery on Feb. 19th, tomorrow. Will fill you in on my progress tomorrow.
